Dean Jones has claimed that Robert Sanchez is right at the top of Chelsea owner Todd Boehly’s transfer wish list.
Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones explained that the Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper is the primary candidate to take over from Edouard Mendy.
Boehly has seemingly been on a scouting mission to locate a suitable alternative to Mendy.
The Senegal international has not exactly made the greatest impression on the Stamford Bridge chief since his appointment as the landlord of Stamford Bridge earlier this year.
Mendy hasn’t been able to replicate the form he demonstrated during his early days at Chelsea, and is now at risk of leaving the club for good.
Rumours of a new ‘keeper potentially heading to Cobham cannot be a good omen for Mendy.
There have been two shot-stoppers mentioned most as the key contenders to take the gloves in South West London.
Jordan Pickford has come up in conversation recently, yet it is Sanchez who appears to be leading the race to displace Mendy.
“At the moment I’m told that Sanchez from Brighton is the main target to replace him,” said transfer insider Jones.
“They have looked at Jordan Pickford and they have been watching him again recently on scouting missions, but at the moment, Sanchez, purely because Potter knows him, Potter had him at Brighton, he’s the main target to replace Mendy.“
Sanchez to Chelsea sounds plausible
Sanchez has certainly made a decent case for a possible switch to Chelsea during his relatively brief Brighton career.
The 25-year-old has kept four Premier League clean sheets so far this season, and ranked inside the top ten for saves last term (101).
He earned a call-up to the Spain squad for the World Cup, ahead of the likes of David De Gea and Chelsea’s own Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Like Mendy, Arrizabalaga might be fearing for his position if the reports are to be believed regarding his compatriot.
