Chelsea could have the opportunity to sign a new left-back at the end of the season.

Marc Cucurella is Chelsea‘s first-choice left-back at present, while Renato Veiga is providing cover for the 26-year-old.

Ben Chilwell is also still at the club, though he could leave in January. It has been claimed that Leicester City are interested in re-signing Chilwell.

It could be one in, one out in the left-back position at Chelsea next year then.

Patrick Dorgu could be on the move

Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu signed a contract extension during the week, but it looks like he could still leave his club in 2025.

According to FiorentinaNews, despite putting pen to paper on a new deal, Dorgu is unlikely to remain at Lecce after attracting interest from Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur during the summer.

Elsewhere, a report from TuttoJuve last month claimed that Chelsea were fascinated by the 19-year-old’s qualities and that he could cost €30m (£24.9m).

Last year, Dorgu revealed that Chelsea are his favourite team, so the Blues may not find it too difficult to convince him to move to Stamford Bridge.

Patrick Dorgu showing his versatility

Dorgu is likely to become a more attractive proposition to Chelsea and other clubs as the campaign goes on.

This season, Dorgu is starting to show even more versatility, playing a few games on the right wing.

Last term, most of his appearances came at left-back, but he did also play further forward in some matches.

Again, then, with Chilwell potentially leaving Chelsea in 2025, there could be room for Dorgu in Enzo Maresca‘s squad. However, his game time may be limited because of Cucurella and Veiga.

Ultimately, Dorgu does not need to be a priority for Chelsea. But being a young player with a lot of potential, if the opportunity to snap him up presents itself, it would not be a shock to see the Blues take it.
