£30m striker is ‘open’ to Premier League move after Chelsea interest

Despite not signing an experienced striker this summer, Chelsea were still linked with several names.

Victor Osimhen was their primary target and they could yet end up with him. Osimhen is still held in high regard by Chelsea.

There was also plenty of talk about the Blues being interested in Ivan Toney and Jonathan David.

However, Toney signed for Al-Ahli on deadline day, while David ended up remaining at Lille.

Jonathan David could move to the Premier League in the future

David attracted some interest in the summer. David has even confirmed that he received offers.

The centre-forward did not reveal the teams who made proposals to him, but Chelsea were reported to be one club who looked at the player.

According to journalist Florian Plettenberg, Chelsea actually made an enquiry about signing David. Nothing came from it, but it looks like the 24-year-old could still move to the Premier League one day, though it is not the English top flight or bust for him.

In an interview with The Athletic, he said: “I’m open to anything. I think obviously the Premier League is regarded as one of the best leagues in the world.

“And for me it’s not the Premier League or bust. I’m open to anything and every league has its challenges.”

Should Chelsea consider signing Jonathan David in the future?

If Chelsea feel that they need another striker in their squad, then David is definitely someone worth looking at again.

His goal record at Lille is good, with the Canada international scoring 26 goals last season, and his contract expires next summer. If he does not renew, then Chelsea could end up getting him for a bargain or even for free.

According to GiveMeSport, Lille wanted £30m for David during the summer transfer window, which is really not that much.

The Blues signing David, though, seems unlikely. If they really wanted him, then the Lille star would probably be at Stamford Bridge already.

Towards the end of the previous transfer window, it was Osimhen or bust for Chelsea. In January, it could be the same thing for the club again, which would rule out a move for David. For someone, however, he could be a really shrewd acquisition.
