Chelsea were extremely active during the summer transfer window, but they were unable to sign an experienced centre-forward in the end.
Chelsea could revisit a deal for Victor Osimhen in January, but failing to land him on deadline day would have been seen as a failure by some.
The Blues went into the summer transfer window with a new No.9 high on their list. However, they could only bring 18-year-old Marc Guiu through the door.
As well as Osimhen, Lille’s Jonathan David was also linked with a move to Chelsea, but their interest in him did not appear to be as strong.

Jonathan David confirms interest in him this summer
In June, it was claimed that Chelsea had spoken to David’s agent about a potential switch to Stamford Bridge.
Since then, David has confirmed that he did receive a couple of offers during the summer transfer window, but the striker did not say if one of them had come from Chelsea.
Speaking to The Athletic, David said: It [a transfer] just didn’t happen. There were a couple of offers and we just didn’t finish the deal, that’s it.
“I spoke to a couple of teams. I spoke with coaches but ultimately made the decision to stay.”
According to one report from GiveMeSport, David was available for around £30m, so he could have ended up being a bargain for someone.
The 24-year-old scored 26 goals in all competitions for Lille last season, with 19 of those coming in Ligue 1.
Nicolas Jackson’s bright start to the season
Having not signed David or Osimhen, Nicolas Jackson is still Chelsea’s first-choice striker and has not made a bad start to the season. In fact, it has been a pretty good one.
The 23-year-old was quite wasteful in the Blues’ opening fixture against Manchester City, which they lost 2-0, but quickly bounced back.
Jackson scored and assisted in Chelsea’s 6-2 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers before netting again in the 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace.
Ivan Toney was also linked with a move to Enzo Maresca‘s side, but Chelsea did not view Toney as an upgrade on Jackson.
If Jackson can keep scoring, then Chelsea’s decision to put their faith in him instead of buying the new Al-Ahli signing will be vindicated.
