Chelsea are now close to selling Kai Havertz as Real Madrid step up their pursuit of the Germany international.

A story from BILD in Germany claims that a ‘mega deal’ is nearing completion as the Spanish giants attempt to find a replacement for Karim Benzema.

Now – according to Sport1 – it would seem Kai Havertz is close to getting what he’s wanted for ages now.

What’s the story?

Well, the German news outlet state that Chelsea’s No.29 has been thinking about leaving Stamford Bridge for a while due to the ‘constant unrest’ in west London, and his representatives are now speaking to Real Madrid.

Sport1 do not add any details about what this unrest may be, although we would presume it has something to do with the fact Chelsea had three different managers throughout the 2022/23 campaign and also adopted a chaotic approach to recruitment.

Havertz certainly hasn’t looked 100% focused out on the pitch for Chelsea, scoring just seven goals in 35 appearances during the 2022/23 season.

Now, with Real Madrid also looking to strengthen their attack after losing Marco Asensio and Eden Hazard, the German is being intensely pursued by Carlo Ancelotti.

Chelsea willing to take loss on Havertz

According to Florian Plettenburg of Sky Germany, Chelsea are willing to accept as little as €50m (£43m) for Havertz this summer.

That would represent a loss in the region of £33m for the Blues, who paid £75.8m to sign the 23-year-old from Bayer Leverkusen in September 2020.

Plettenburg stated that Chelsea are open to selling Havertz, as there are doubts over whether he would sign an extension on his current contract, which expires in June 2025.

If Sport1 are to be trusted, and Havertz really has been thinking about leaving Stamford Bridge for a while, then those doubts would seem to have some foundations.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Real Madrid step up their interest in the German.
