Chelsea target Amadou Onana is now desperate to leave Everton this summer after the Blues held talks about signing him.

That is according to Le Soir in France.

So, what is the latest on Amadou Onana and Chelsea? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, it was Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri who recently revealed that Chelsea had started negotiations to sign the Belgium international from Everton.

Onana impressed in his debut campaign at Goodison Park following a £33m move from Lille in August 2022, scoring one goal and providing two assists in 33 Premier League appearances as Everton narrowly avoided relegation.

Now – however – Le Soir are claiming that the Belgian is no longer ‘on the same wavelength’ as Everton, and is absolutely clear about his desire to leave Goodison Park.

The French news outlet add that Everton value Onana at £55m and Arsenal have also shown an interest.

Le Soir also state that Everton are in need of cash to ease their financial issues, so an exit for their No.8 – arguably the most valuable player at Goodison Park – would make sense this summer.

Chelsea must seriously explore Amadou Onana opportunity

In our view, this could be a very easy deal for Chelsea to complete this summer, and is definitely worth doing in addition to a move for Moises Caicedo.

Mauricio Pochettino needs numbers in his midfield department after losing N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic to Al-Ittihad and Manchester City respectively. Denis Zakaria has also returned to Juventus after his loan spell ended.

Onana is just 21 years of age, so Chelsea would be making a long-term investment if they met Everton’s £55m asking price.

The Dakar-born midfielder is also a leader as well as a superb midfielder, with Roberto Martinez even likening him to a “young Patrick Vieira’ when speaking to Sky Sports.

Martinez said: “Really exciting footballer.

“Off the ball, he is one of the most impressive young players with his capacity without the ball, the intensity, the way he can press, and then it’s that arrival into the box, sometimes he reminds you of a young Patrick Vieira in the way that he can drive with the ball.”

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation – Chelsea could soon make a bid as Pochettino aims to replace the midfielders who have left Stamford Bridge.
