Chelsea are now in talks to sell Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Marseille as the Blues close in on the sale of Ethan Ampadu to Leeds United.

That is according to The Athletic.

What’s the story?

Well, the Gabon international has endured a chaotic summer so far.

The Athletic believe Aubameyang has been told three different return dates by Chelsea, with the original date of July 12th rescheduled three times so far.

Mauricio Pochettino has told the 34-year-old to report at Cobham on Tuesday, although Chelsea jet off to the United States for the pre-season tour on Monday.

Aubameyang – according to The Athletic – intends to turn up on Tuesday despite being left out of the US tour.

So, on to Marseille.

The Athletic believe Marseille will struggle to afford Aubameyang due to his £160,000-a-week wages, while Chelsea also want a transfer fee.

It is said that Chelsea’s talks with the French giants are still going well, although a compromise will have to be reached on finances if this deal is to go through, as Marseille cannot afford a transfer fee as well as his salary.

Chelsea should rip up Aubameyang contract

Chelsea have already torn up Baba Rahman’s contract this summer to allow him to leave ahead of schedule – his terms were set to expire in 12 months.

Aubameyang’s £160,000-a-week deal also expires in 12 months, and his decline in recent times means Chelsea are unlikely to receive a very high transfer fee for the Gabonese striker.

Therefore, we feel Todd Boehly should let the Chelsea No.9 leave for nothing – it would be a positive just to get his significant wages off the salary bill.

That should be the priority for Chelsea – rather than haggling over a few millions pounds worth of transfer fees.
