Chelsea could be about to recall a second player from loan in the space of a few days.
The Blues confirmed earlier this week that Andrey Santos, 19, has returned early to Stamford Bridge from his season-long loan spell at Nottingham Forest.
Next, David Datro Fofana could see his time with Union Berlin come to a premature end.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported today that Chelsea may soon recall another youngster from their long list of players out on loan.
Blues-owned striker Fofana, 21, has been playing in the German Bundesliga with Union Berlin. However, there’s ongoing talks about cutting short his season-long loan before allowing him to go play elsewhere.
Romano said on X: “Understand after Andrey Santos, Chelsea are also prepared to recall David Datro Fofana from loan deal at Union Berlin.
“Internal discussion taking place but Fofana is expected to return and leave again.”

With Santos, it was a no-brainer to end his time with Forest because he only played two game across all competitions for them. We’re now intrigued to see what the Blues decide to do with the Brazilian midfielder for the second half of the season.
As for Fofana, the young attacker has scored two goals in 17 appearances for Union Berlin.
The 21-year-old’s not quite ripped up the German Bundesliga like some may have hoped, but he’s getting minutes and should be learning a lot from a challenging loan.
The Athletic claimed back in February that Chelsea’s recruitment data under former boss Graham Potter indicated that Fofana was better than Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in many metrics. We’re not sure he’ done enough to force his way into first-team plans based off the first half of the season in Germany.
Let’s hope all parties can find a positive new loan destination in 2024 for the young attacker.
