Chelsea have now agreed a deal to sign Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.

That is according to a report from The Athletic.

They claim that Premier League rivals Chelsea and Brighton have reached an agreement for Robert Sanchez to move to Stamford Bridge in this window.

In addition, the 25-year-old keeper is expected to undergo his medical ‘imminently’.

They explain that the Spaniard is moving to Chelsea to provide competition for fellow countryman Kepa Arrizabalaga in-between the sticks.

With Edouard Mendy already leaving Chelsea this summer, it was a no-brainer for the club to bring in a senior replacement to compete for the No 1 position.

Sanchez may have lost his starting position at Brighton towards the end of last season, but he’s proven himself to be a very consistent operator at Premier League level in the past.

Nathan Gissing recently claimed on Gianluca Di Marzio’s website that Chelsea may be able to sign Sanchez from Brighton for just £20million this summer.

It’s unclear right now how much the Blues have agreed to pay for him, though.

Described as “amazing” by Graham Potter in 2022 (Yahoo), Sanchez needs a fresh move to get his promising career back on track. At the age of 25, his prime years should be just around the corner as well.

Providing there are no late hiccups with the medical, Sanchez will be a Chelsea player and the latest summer recruit for Mauricio Pochettino’s squad.

He must have confidence in himself to overtake Kepa in the pecking order otherwise it wouldn’t make too much sense to join, so the competition for the keeper spot may be about to ramp up.

It’s been a turbulent time dealing with Brighton over the past year for various players/coaches, but it sounds like this Sanchez saga has been fairly smooth in comparison.
