Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez was keen to link up with compatriot Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea in the summer.

That is according to a report from TEAMtalk.

It claims that Lautaro Martinez wanted to join Mauricio Pochettino in west London, but Chelsea felt that the 26-year-old was not the right profile for them.

If true, then not signing Martinez is a decision the Blues could live to regret.

The Argentine has been on fire this term, while Chelsea are really struggling. He recently scored four goals in a game against Salernitana, one goal less than Pochettino’s side have managed together in the Premier League this season.

Chelsea’s failure to move for Lautaro Martinez a surprise

Chelsea were in the market for a striker during the summer transfer window, bringing in Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal in the end.

Considering that, it really is a surprise that they did not make a concrete move for Martinez.

The Argentina international, who has been described as “amazing” by his former Inter team-mate Romelu Lukaku, is one of the best forwards in Europe.

Last season, Martinez scored 28 goals in all competitions for the Nerazzurri. It is the kind of firepower Chelsea could do with right now.

The Blues wanted something else it seems but given that they are struggling to find the back of the net, perhaps Martinez is a name they could revisit in January. You suspect, though, that Inter will be very reluctant to let their captain go during the middle of the season.
