Arsenal could consider raiding London rivals Chelsea for another player.

The Gunners, of course, signed Kai Havertz from Chelsea in the last transfer window.

And now, according to journalist Simon Phillips, Arsenal could become interested in Marc Cucurella, though a move this month is unlikely because of the left-back’s injury. On his Substack, Phillips said: “I’ve heard some whispers last week of a potential move to Arsenal bubbling up.”

Chelsea signed Cucurella from Brighton & Hove Albion back in 2022 for £62m (The Guardian).

The Seagulls replaced Cucurella with Pervis Estupinan, who former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino thinks is actually better than the 25-year-old.

Will Marc Cucurella join Arsenal in the summer?

It does not sound too far-fetched. Chelsea and Arsenal have done a lot of business with each other recently, while Phillips has also claimed on Substack that the Blues are open to selling Cucurella.

Mauricio Pochettino has Levi Colwill and Ben Chilwell who can play in the left-back position as well, while Chelsea have been linked with Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies.

When you consider all of the above, then, Cucurella to Arsenal certainly does seem possible.

While Arsenal are obviously a London rival, Chelsea fans are unlikely to kick up a fuss if Cucurella does go on to join Mikel Arteta’s side.

Since arriving at Stamford Bridge, the former Brighton man has failed to make much of an impact. Last season, he made just 21 starts in the Premier League. For £62m, some would have expected him to have a much bigger role.

This term, Cucurella has also been a bit of a utility player, covering at right-back at times when Reece James and Malo Gusto have been unavailable.

Because he has shown a bit of versatility in the current campaign, it may be worth keeping him around. But an Arsenal bid would give Chelsea something to seriously think about.
