Barcelona now want to sign recent £75m Chelsea target

Chelsea could watch one of their targets from the last transfer window join Barcelona in the new year.

Chelsea were very busy during the summer, landing most of their targets. For example, the likes of Pedro Neto, Filip Jorgensen and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall all joined the club.

However, the Blues did not get everyone on their shortlist. They missed out on Victor Osimhen, who ended up joining Galatasaray on loan.

Chelsea also failed to land Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran. Earlier this month, it was claimed that Chelsea actually came close to signing Duran from their Premier League rivals.

Barcelona interested in Jhon Duran

If Chelsea decide to go back in for Duran next year, then the Blues could face competition from Barcelona and another club from London.

According to AS, Hansi Flick’s Barcelona and Arsenal are both interested in Duran, who is unlikely to come cheap after his excellent start to the season.

The outlet claims that Villa value their striker at €90m (£74.8m). He has been in great form, scoring for the Villans again in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Duran has also been linked to West Ham, but a move to the London Stadium seems unlikely, given the Hammers’ struggles this season and the other clubs who are interested in the 20-year-old.

Jhon Duran should not replace Nicolas Jackson

Duran really is lighting up English football right now, with the Colombian having scored seven goals in 12 appearances for Villa in the current campaign.

However, Chelsea’s current first-choice striker, Nicolas Jackson, has also impressed this term. He just netted in his side’s 2-1 loss against Liverpool.

At 23, Jackson is still quite young as well, so the Senegal international should get even better in the future.

Ultimately, Chelsea should not be thinking about replacing Jackson with Duran, and there is nothing to suggest that they are. Signing the Villa man only looks necessary if Chelsea lose Christopher Nkunku, who is currently the team’s second-choice striker.
