Spanish journalist Gerard Romero has now backed up Revevo’s claim today that Chelsea are making a last minute move to hijack Frenkie de Jong’s proposed move to Manchester United.
The 25-year-old has been widely speculated to be joining the Red Devils this summer, with the Catalan side reluctantly having to let him go due to their financial issues.
However, the Blues have apparently made a last minute effort to bring the Netherlands international to Stamford Bridge.

De Jong is admired by Thomas Tuchel, with the Blues reportedly keeping tabs on the midfielder despite United being clear favourites for the move in the region of £68m.
Chelsea attempt to hijack De Jong
Romero has backed up the Spanish news source’s claims, with them suggesting they have made a bullish approach to the negotiations.
Relevo claimed on Twitter: “Chelsea bursts in force to sign Frenkie De Jong. With two Barça goals on the table: Marcos Alonso and Azpilicueta. Same negotiation, independent operations. The blues, very interested.”
Romero confirmed the developments in the last hour, tweeting: “Indeed. WARMED up from Chelsea by Frenkie. Hot hours in Barcelona. And he is not the only footballer that Chelsea wants.”
Not only would the signing be a major statement to where Chelsea stand in the transfer market compared to previous goliaths United, but his superb ability would undoubtedly strengthen a position the Blues have seen plagued by injuries.
Mateo Kovacic and N’golo Kante both suffered with injury issues last season, leaving a large responsibility on Jorginho to play the majority of fixtures.
Despite the return of Conor Gallagher on loan, the quality of De Jong is an opportunity that doesn’t become available often. With the clubs also in negotiations for Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso, they could hold some leverage in any potential departure of the Dutchman.
