Chelsea may reportedly be interested this summer in trying to beat Manchester United to the signature of Barcelona player Frenkie de Jong.
De Jong, 25, is a talented midfielder that’s been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford throughout this summer transfer window.
According to The Guardian, Man United are in talks with the Barcelona individual about personal terms after agreeing a €65million (£56.2million) fee to sign him.
The report explains Chelsea are actually monitoring the central midfielder’s situation in case a move to Premier League rivals Manchester United breaks down, though.
It is understood Blues manager Thomas Tuchel admires the Holland international, who ideally would like to play Champions League football next season. However, he would give that up if he agrees to join Man United.

Chelsea interested in Frenkie de Jong
Chelsea may still turn attention towards De Jong in this transfer window, which seems like it would a massive hijack if they sign him over Man United.
He’s an extremely technical midfielder that put his name on the European map with his spell at Ajax. However, it feels like he’s still yet to hit his very best form consistently enough during a three-year spell in a Barcelona shirt.
It’s Man United that appear to be firmly in the driving seat to sign De Jong, but Chelsea’s potential late interest is eye-catching.

Blues go Dutch
It’s yet another Dutch player in this window linked to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have reportedly already made an approach about a move for Juventus and Holland centre-back Matthijs de Ligt.
Also, Tuchel’s side are reportedly readying a £30million offer to sign Manchester City and Dutch defender Nathan Ake.
