Champions League club won’t give up on £47m Chelsea target

It looks like there is still a chance of one Chelsea target joining another European giant this summer.

Chelsea have strengthened at the back recently, bringing in goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal.

However, after missing out on Michael Olise, what the Blues have not done is bring in a winger for the first team.

With the transfer window still open, though, there is still time to do that. Chelsea have been linked with the likes of Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams and Juventus’ Federico Chiesa.

Juventus manager Thiago Motta has confirmed Chiesa is not in his plans, which is good news for Chelsea if they really do want the Italian.

Barcelona are not giving up on signing Nico Williams

While signing Chiesa should not be much of a problem for Chelsea, the same cannot be said about Williams.

Chelsea would love to acquire Williams this summer, but he is now expected to remain at Athletic for the 2024/25 season.

Barcelona do not look ready to give up yet, though. According to Sport, while Athletic have been assured that the 22-year-old is staying with them for the upcoming campaign, Barcelona are not giving up on his signature.

As per The Athletic, Williams has a £47m release clause in his contract, but simply triggering it does not look like it will be enough to get him out of his club during this transfer window.

Chelsea prioritising Victor Osimhen

While Williams may be one name on Chelsea’s radar, the attacker who the Blues seem to be prioritising at the minute is Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.

Chelsea are aiming to bring Osimhen’s price tag down as they look to bring him to Stamford Bridge.

With Enzo Maresca already possessing Mykhailo Mudryk and Raheem Sterling for the left wing, Chelsea going all out for a centre-forward like Osimhen instead of Williams makes more sense.

Maresca views Sterling as an “important” player, which may reduce the club’s need for another left winger, such as Williams.
