Chelsea are now set to hold a meeting with Brighton regarding Moises Caicedo before the friendly between both sides in the United States on Saturday.

That is according to The Times.

So, what is the latest on Moises Caicedo and Chelsea? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the Blues saw a £70m bid rejected for the Ecuador international earlier today (Tuesday).

Chelsea remain hopeful of wrapping up a deal for £80m or under, and The Times believe that senior figures at Stamford Bridge will hold talks with representatives from Brighton in the USA before the weekend.

The Times add that Chelsea are open to exploring alternative options – Romeo Lavia of Southampton has been linked – although Caicedo remains the No.1 target.

Brighton’s No.25 has already agreed personal terms with Chelsea, and the Evening Standard believe the South American was very keen for the Seagulls to accept that £70m bid, which has just been rejected.

Ben Jacobs of CBS Sports adds that Caicedo – who Jamie Redknapp described as “magnificent” on Sky Sports (13/11/22 at 1:45 pm) – is becoming increasingly frustrated at the delay surrounding his move to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea may have to increase Moises Caicedo bid by £30m

By the sounds of it, there is not just a small gap in valuation between Chelsea and Brighton, but a canyon.

According to talkSPORT, Brighton now want £100m for Caicedo after seeing Declan Rice move from West Ham to Arsenal in a deal worth £105m.

That means Chelsea may have to make the 21-year-old their second most expensive player in history, behind the £106.8m Enzo Fernandez.

With such a huge difference in valuation, it will certainly be interesting to see how talks between Chelsea and Brighton play out in the USA.

Be sure to keep an eye out for updates on Caicedo between now and Saturday, as we await the outcome of Chelsea and Brighton’s imminent meeting.
