Chelsea are not targeting £50m striker despite excellent form this season

With the January transfer window literally around the corner, Chelsea will have the chance to sign a new striker.

However, one name that Chelsea are unlikely to go after is Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke.

According to journalist Simon Phillips, the Blues are not interested in their former player as things stand. “I am told Solanke is not being considered by Chelsea,” he wrote on Substack.

While Chelsea may not be too keen on Solanke, their London rivals Arsenal appear to have him on their radar.

The Daily Star claimed earlier this month that the Gunners are keeping tabs on the former Liverpool and Chelsea man, who Bournemouth value at £50m.

Chelsea not considering Dominic Solanke

It is probably a bit too early for Solanke to become a serious option for Chelsea. He is obviously having a fantastic season.

The England international has scored 12 goals in 19 Premier League appearances. However, this is the first time that he has reached double figures in the top flight.

£50m is a lot of money to spend on a forward who could just be having a purple patch.

When it comes to that striker position, Chelsea really need to get it right. Goals are the only thing that are going to take them back into the top four.

With that in mind, then, someone more proven like Napoli’s Victor Osimhen would be perfect. The Blues appear to be a strong contender to sign the Nigerian, though landing him in January seems highly unlikely after he extended his contract.

Ultimately, Chelsea may have to wait until the summer to sign their dream striker, which probably makes more sense than panic buying someone like Solanke. Looking at his overall goal record, you cannot be sure that he would be a success at Stamford Bridge if he returned there.
