It does not look like Chelsea will have to worry about Arsenal in the race for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.

Chelsea and Arsenal have both been linked with Victor Osimhen, but a report from FootballTransfers claims that the latter have now pulled out of the race for his signature.

The same outlet says the Blues are now in pole position to sign the 24-year-old.

Any move is unlikely to happen until the summer, though, with Osimhen having just put pen to paper on a new contract at Napoli.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano always thought that Chelsea signing Osimhen in January was impossible.

Chelsea in pole position to sign Victor Osimhen

Chelsea are probably the club who Osimhen has been linked to the most, perhaps because they are one of few sides who have the financial muscle to sign a player of that quality.

Unless an outfit such as Real Madrid comes into the equation, you would make the Blues favourites to land the Nigerian, who has been hailed as a “complete striker” by Didier Drogba.

A lot can happen between now and the summer like another European heavyweight entering the fray, for example.

Ultimately, where Osimhen ends up, if he does decide to leave Napoli at the end of the season, is not a forgone conclusion. However, Chelsea do look to be in a good position to land him and hopefully they do. Right now, there are few strikers in Europe better than the former Lille star.

Since the beginning of the last campaign, Osimhen has scored just under 40 goals in all competitions. Add that to Mauricio Pochettino‘s team, and they would look like a completely different outfit.

The only problem is, can Chelsea wait until the summer to sign a new centre-forward? A lot will depend on the form of Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku and what the club are actually hoping to accomplish this season.
