Chelsea will now reportedly turn their attention to Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez after reaching an agreement to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Barcelona.

According to Times journalist Tom Roddy on Twitter, Chelsea have a “full agreement” to bring 33-year-old striker Aubameyang to Stamford Bridge in a deal that will see Marcos Alonso move in the other direction. In fact, the Barcelona frontman will reportedly fly to London on Thursday afternoon before undergoing his medical to join the Blues.

Journalist Tom Roddy adds that Chelsea’s attention can now shift to Alvarez, who is “pushing” to join the Blues.

This comes after recent claims that the 24-year-old skipped Ajax training earlier today to try force a transfer to the Premier League.

Chelsea turn attention to Alvarez

Chelsea have reportedly submitted a £43million bid for Alvarez this week, and it sounds like this is a deal they’re willing to chase down to the wire.

With just hours remaining until the window shuts on Thursday night, Thomas Tuchel’s side will now put all their eggs into the Ajax star’s basket.

He’s a defensive midfielder that’s got a lot of skills needed to slot into Tuchel’s Chelsea as one of their two midfielders in a number six pivot.

However, plenty of individuals have struggled in the past with the step up from the Eredivise to England’s top division.

Let’s see if Tuchel can complete this window with the signing of a central midfielder, plus supporters are still waiting for official confirmation on Aubameyang joining.

It’s not been the prettiest of starts on the pitch for Chelsea, but there’s really very little to complain about when you see the money splashed in one single transfer window by the new ownership.
