Chelsea may face huge competition from Arsenal in the race to sign Everton’s Amadou Onana this year.

Amadou Onana, who’s just 22, is one of the outstanding players for Premier League side Everton.

We’re no overly surprised to hear that the Belgian defensive midfielder is linked with a potential big-money transfer move away from Goodison Park.

He ranks 20th across the entire Premier League this season for most tackles (41). This is despite missing four games, too.

Nieuwsblad Sport explains that Everton youngster Onana is attracting interest from the likes of Barcelona, Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal.

It is understood that Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea side are now closely following the 22-year-old midfielder.

However, the report claims that it’s Arsenal that are are ‘pushing’ hardest. In fact, the Gunners are even considering making a bid for Everton’s talent, who’s valued at around €60m (£52m).

It sounds like Arsenal have made the first move for the 6ft 4in colossus, but will there be a response from Chelsea?

Chelsea following Amadou Onana

We’re pretty confident that Onana could step up to a ‘bigger’ club. If you watch him perform in the Premier League, he’s the very heartbeat of Sean Dyche’s Everton team in their engine room.

We think he could actually be real value for money at around £50m when you look at the current state of the transfer market.

One red flag we have when it comes to Chelsea’s rumoured interest is that there’s already a plethora of talented central midfielders in the Blues squad. Therefore, it could make little sense going after him.

In contrast, we could definitely picture him slotting straight into the Arsenal side and boosting their title bid.

The Liverpool Echo claimed back in October that Everton believe that Onana could become as good as or even better than Chelsea star Moises Caicedo.
