Fabrizio Romano has claimed to CaughtOffside that Chelsea are still working on securing a deal to sign Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig last year.
It was pretty big and sudden news a few weeks ago when it emerged that the Blues had organised a medical for the Frenchman this summer.
The intention was to snap the player up before their rivals in the upcoming transfer windows, with the release clause installed in his latest contract certainly achievable to a number of big clubs.

After it became clear that the Blues were working hard on their first transfer of 2023, reports emerged that the player was interested in a move to London.
Romano has claimed that although the Blues are still working hard to get the deal done, there have not been too many changes to how the situation was a few weeks ago.
Chelsea working on Nkunku
He said: “I know Chelsea fans are keen to hear an update on Christopher Nkunku, but the situation is still the same: Chelsea are working on it on both player and club side with RB Leipzig and the next step has to be the contracts signing to consider the deal done.
“It’s a work in progress, and Chelsea are on it.”
There have been reports that the club were trying to get things confirmed before the World Cup this winter, potentially bringing him to West London in January.

The Blues do look as if they could do with a boost in the attacking areas right now.
Their only strike in the last two matches has been a penalty from Jorginho, and they haven’t looked like adding many more based on the chances created.
With a long-term striker option not exactly putting their hand up as the number one option at the club, a figure like Nkunku could revitalise their team.
