Chelsea are keen on signing Barcelona defender Alejandro Balde.

Chelsea are just one of a few Premier League clubs who have an interest in Alejandro Balde, according to Sport.

The same outlet has also claimed that his agent Jorge Mendes has mooted the possibility of a transfer if Barcelona need to make a big sale.

Signing a new left-back in January or next summer would make sense, as it has been a problem area for Mauricio Pochettino this season.

Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella are both currently out injured, while Levi Colwill, a central defender, has spent the majority of the campaign playing there.

Chelsea interested in Alejandro Balde

Chelsea may very well have to make some changes in the left-back position in one of the next two transfer windows, largely because of Chilwell’s injuries and the fact that Colwill is just not a left-back.

Balde could be a good option for them, with the 20-year-old really impressing last season. In fact, he stunned his manager Xavi.

“The ceiling is to continue playing for Barça,” Xavi was quoted as saying by Mundo Deportivo back in March. “He is in the national team, he has already played in a World Cup, sensational in defence and attack. I hope he continues like this, he is the revelation of the season, the surprise. He can be whatever he wants.”

As well as left-back, right-back has also been a bit of a headache for Pochettino this term. He has lost both Reece James and Malo Gusto to suspensions and injuries, with the former set for a long spell on the sidelines after undergoing hamstring surgery.

In total, the England international could miss up to four months of action. If he comes back and picks up another injury, then Chelsea are also surely going to have to consider signing a new right-back as well.
