Chelsea have very high hopes for one footballer they are reportedly interested in signing.

Right now, Chelsea’s squad does not look like it needs too much surgery, if any at all.

Enzo Maresca‘s men are currently second in the Premier League table, just two points behind leaders Liverpool.

Even so, Chelsea signing a new goalkeeper has not been ruled out. Robert Sanchez is currently the team’s No.1, while Filip Jorgensen has been his deputy.

Chelsea think Gregor Kobel has incredible potential

One goalkeeper who has been linked with a move to Chelsea is Borussia Dortmund’s Gregor Kobel.

It has been claimed that Chelsea could try to sign Kobel next summer, with the club holding him in high regard.

According to Bild, Chelsea believe that the 27-year-old has what it takes to become the best goalkeeper in the world.

The Blues only signed Jorgensen in July, while Mike Penders is set to join them in 2025, so goalkeeper is not an area where they are lacking options.

What has been said about Gregor Kobel?

Chelsea are not the only ones who seem to rate Kobel. Former Dortmund goalkeeper Romano Weidenfeller appears to be a fan of the Switzerland international, too.

When speaking about Kobel in an interview with Bild last year, Weidenfeller said: “He has already matured into a leader on the pitch at such a young age. An outstanding goalkeeper for me who still has huge potential. Gregor is outstanding on the line, very strong with his feet and courageous when it comes to controlling the penalty area.

“He is a leader at BVB. He is also a top lad. I personally believe that Gregor is one of the most important transfers in the club’s recent history with a view to the next few years.”

While Kobel may be a quality keeper, before Chelsea make a move for him or any other shot-stopper for that matter, Jorgensen deserves a shot between the sticks.

When the Denmark U21 international has played in the Conference League this season, he has been phenomenal.

For example, in Chelsea’s 2-0 win against Heidenheim, he made an incredible 11 saves. While Sanchez has made some bad mistakes, overall, the 27-year-old has not done too badly either.

He helped Chelsea to win their west London derby against Brentford last Sunday after making a stunning save in the second half. Ultimately, for the time being, Chelsea probably do not need to prioritise a move for Kobel.
