Chelsea are reportedly impressed by the qualities of a Premier League star who previously worked under Enzo Maresca.
When Enzo Maresca became the Chelsea manager last summer, he did reunite with some familiar faces.
The Blues boss previously coached both Cole Palmer and Romeo Lavia in Manchester City’s academy. Plus, he managed Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall in the 2023/24 season at Leicester City when they clinched promotion from the Championship.
It’s been an interesting debut year so far for Maresca at Stamford Bridge, where the pressure is building because his side are at risk of missing out on Champions League qualification.

Even though some supporters are quite vocal with their frustration right now, Maresca’s position at Chelsea is safe because he’s expected to get at least two years in the dugout.

Chelsea impressed by Leicester goalkeeper Mads Hermansen
According to The Sun, Chelsea have been impressed by the performances of Leicester keeper Mads Hermansen this season, even though he’s part of a side whose relegation from the Premier League has now been confirmed.
It is stated that Leicester’s financial position means the 24-year-old shot-stopper could be available for a ‘bargain’ price. Apparently, the Foxes could reduce the asking price for Hermansen down to £35m amid what is likely to be plenty of interest.
The report explains that Chelsea have a big decision to make this summer over what they do between the posts. Even though they do admire Hermansen, they’ve got a lot of goalkeepers on the books already.
Chelsea will have a full review this summer when it comes to their goalkeepers. As it stands, they need to work out if any of Robert Sanchez, Filip Jorgensen, Djordje Petrovic, Kepa Arrizabalaga or Mike Penders are the right fit for them moving forward.
Sanchez and Jorgensen appear to have fluffed their chances this season while fighting it out for Chelsea’s No 1 position. In contrast, Hermansen has put in some stellar individual displays for a poor Leicester team.
| Player | Error leading to goal | Premier League appearances |
| Robert Sanchez | 5 | 27 |
| Filip Jorgensen | 1 | 6 |
| Mads Hermansen | 1 | 26 |

Mads Hermansen previously excelled under Enzo Maresca
In the 2023/24 campaign, Hermansen was Leicester’s starting goalkeeper when they were promoted under Maresca’s management.
The Danish gloveman has great reflexes and is a big presence in net. On top of that, he’s very comfortable with the ball at his feet, so can play the style of play in building out from the back that Maresca prefers.
| Appearances | Goals conceded | Clean sheets |

Back in March 2025, Maresca described Hermansen as “brilliant” via BBC Sport after his performance in Chelsea’s 1-0 league victory over Leicester. Incidentally, Hermansen saved a Palmer penalty in that game.
Without a doubt, Hermansen deserves a move this summer because he’s too good to be playing in the Championship next season. Chelsea would need to weigh up whether they think he’s ready to step up and play for a club of their size, though.
