A transfer battle between Chelsea and their London rivals West Ham United could potentially erupt this year.
Last month, Bild’s Christian Falk claimed that Chelsea were interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah as a potential replacement for Thiago Silva.
However, the Blues do not look to be the only admirers of Tah. Journalist Paul Brown recently told GiveMeSport that West Ham have had the centre-back on their radar for a few years and that David Moyes has watched him in person.
The Hammers are currently sixth in the Premier League. Finish there, and a move to the London Stadium may very well appeal to Tah, if it does not already.
West Ham have Chelsea target Jonathan Tah on their radar
According to Brown, West Ham have been watching Tah for a while, meaning Chelsea may have to go toe-to-toe with their London rivals if they want to sign him.
On West Ham and the 27-year-old, the journalist said: “It’s interesting that they’d be going for a central defender because they seem quite well stocked there. That would suggest that somebody is leaving if they were to do a deal like that.
“Tah is actually someone who’s been on their radar for two or three years. I know that Moyes personally is a big fan of that player. He’s been to watch him personally over the years.”

Jonathan Tah more likely to join Chelsea
Even if West Ham are doing much better than Chelsea right now, you would still expect Tah to join the Blues over them if it came down to a choice between the two.
Chelsea are still the bigger club and can offer more money than their Premier League rivals.
The chance to succeed a legendary defender like Silva may also be too good of an opportunity for Tah to turn down.
The Brazil international’s contract expires at the end of the season, so there is a real possibility that Chelsea will need to replace him soon.
