Chelsea could push really hard in the upcoming summer transfer window to sign a 24-year-old attacker who’s got a great goalscoring rate.

Even though the Chelsea squad has been expensively assembled, they do still lack a clinical centre-forward at the top end of the pitch.

Blues co-owner Todd Boehly admitted the club are targeting strikers in the transfer market right now but added that finding an elite frontman is a tough challenge.

Chelsea desperate to win race for Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface

According to CaughtOffside, Chelsea are doing ‘whatever it takes’ to sign Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface, 24, in the transfer window this summer.

It is understood that the Blues will face competition from the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United for the striker’s signature. Plus, Newcastle United could enter the race if Alexander Isak ends up leaving St James’ Park.

The report adds that Chelsea are moving towards making Boniface a ‘top priority target’ ahead of next season.

Boniface will cost £42m to sign from Leverkusen amid interest from numerous top clubs.

For Chelsea, they can’t allow the 2025/26 season to be another year where they’re struggling for goals at the point of attack.

In terms of Leverkusen striker Boniface as an option for Chelsea, he’s certainly a very interesting one.

The Nigeria international has been building his reputation in German football for the past 18 months. In this current season, he’s averaging one goal every two games.

It’s been a stop-start campaign for Boniface so far due to injury, but the frontman is clinical around the penalty box. On paper, he ticks a lot of boxes for what Chelsea need, scoring 31 goals in 54 games since he joined Leverkusen in 2023.

The obvious gamble on his signing would be around whether or not he can replicate the success in front of goal in the Premier League.
