Chelsea could sell 24-year-old this month and then go and buy a left-back

Fulham are interested in signing one defender from west London rivals Chelsea this month.

Trevoh Chalobah is a player Fulham want on loan, according to the Daily Mail.

However, the same outlet has claimed that Chelsea would also be willing to sell the centre-back to help them raise funds to sign a left-back.

The left side of defence has been a bit of an issue for Mauricio Pochettino this season.

Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella have both had injury problems — the latter is still sidelined — and Ian Maatsen has just joined Borussia Dortmund for the rest of the campaign.

At present, Levi Colwill, a central defender, is playing at left-back.

Fulham interested in Trevoh Chalobah

A loan or permanent move to Fulham could be really good for Chalobah.

With Pochettino having so many centre-back options, the 24-year-old is not going to get game time at Stamford Bridge this season.

Joining Fulham would give Chalobah the chance to remain in the Premier League and Marco Silva’s side are not doing terribly in the division right now. The Cottagers are currently 13th in the table.

As for Chelsea, if selling Chalobah this month can help them to sign a left-back, then they need to offload the former England U21 international, who Pochettino is barely going to use when he has the likes of Thiago Silva and Axel Disasi available to him.

Journalist Simon Phillips recently claimed that Real Madrid’s Ferland Mendy is one name that the Blues have discussed. However, it would be a shock if the Spanish giants sold their first-choice left-back in the middle of the season.

Whatever the case, Chelsea could probably do with a new left-back coming in soon, while Chalobah needs a move if he wants regular playing time in the second half of this campaign. He is unlikely to get that at Stamford Bridge.
