Chelsea could be flexible over the potential sale of one of their players in the summer transfer window.

Ian Maatsen is currently on loan at Borussia Dortmund and has a £35m release clause in his contract that they or any other club can activate, according to The Telegraph.

However, journalist Ben Jacobs has now claimed in his column for Si Phillips Talks Chelsea that Chelsea could be willing to settle for a £30m fee.

At this rate, one club is definitely going to offer an acceptable amount of money for Maatsen.

The left-back has really impressed at Dortmund since joining the Bundesliga outfit last month. In five league appearances, he has managed to register two assists, which is impressive for a player in his position.

Whether it is £30m or £35m, someone could be about to get a real bargain by signing Maatsen.

“The kid is bright, he’s hugely talented,” Coventry City goalkeeper Simon Moore told The Athletic a few years ago when talking about Maatsen. The two played alongside each other during the Dutch youngster’s loan spell at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

The fact that Maatsen is an extremely versatile player also makes him a potential bargain.

As well as at left-back, the 21-year-old can also play on the left wing. He has even been used on the right by Mauricio Pochettino this season.

Honestly, it is a shame that Chelsea could now lose Maatsen, as they have had issues at left-back and are now being linked with players in that position, such as Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez.

He could have saved them millions, but it now looks like the Blues will have to go out and sign a new left-back if Ben Chilwell continues to get injured, for example.

If Maatsen continues on the trajectory that he is on, then there is probably going to be some regret at Stamford Bridge.
