Chelsea have rejected the opportunity to sign Fulham’s Joao Palhinha this summer.

That is according to a report from talkSPORT.

They claim that Chelsea were presented with Joao Palhinha as a potential transfer option during this transfer window.

However, the Blues have turned down the chance to sign Fulham’s 28-year-old midfielder, who’s been highlighted as an alternative to Brighton’s Moises Caicedo.

The report adds that the Portugal international doesn’t match the age profile of Chelsea’s recruitment team.

The report above does concern us.

We’re very much 50-50 on whether Palhinha would be a good signing for Chelsea, so pulling out of the race to sign him doesn’t feel like the end of the world.

However, it seems astonishing that you would disregard a player at the age of 28.

It’s brilliant to see Chelsea’s focus on signing so many talented youngsters, something that supporters got to see earlier this week when a very youthful Blues line-up caught the eye in a pre-season friendly against Wrexham.

However, you simply will need a core of experienced individuals to help mentor and guide these rising stars through an entire season.

The Guardian previously claimed that Fulham will demand £50million this summer to sell Palhinha.

The aggressive defensive midfielder was superb last year during his first season in the Premier League, so we wouldn’t be surprised by a big-money transfer in the near future.

Described as “sensational” by Steve Sidwell on BT Sport, Palhinha just isn’t deemed the right fit for Chelsea.
