Chelsea and Barcelona could be involved in one or two transfer tussles in the summer.

Both clubs are thought to be interested in Julian Alvarez, who wants to play as a striker at his next team.

However, the Argentine is not the only player who has been linked to Chelsea and Hansi Flick’s Barcelona ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

Chelsea looking at Donyell Malen

According to Corriere dello Sport, Barcelona are watching Donyell Malen, who is currently on loan at AS Roma from Aston Villa.

They could face competition from Chelsea, though, with the same outlet claiming that the Blues are also looking at the forward.

Corriere dello Sport’s report states that Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini views Malen as “untouchable”, which is not a surprise given his recent form.

However, Roma need to qualify for the Champions League or Europa League to trigger their obligation to buy. Right now, the Giallorossi are sixth in the Serie A table.

Chelsea will also be desperate to qualify for the Champions League so their own transfer plans are not affected, though that looks highly unlikely.

Whether they qualify for the competition or not, though, will not impact their interest in Anthony Gordon.

Donyell Malen’s excellent loan spell at Roma

It has not quite worked out for Malen at Villa, but he has been in stunning form during his loan stint at Roma.

Since joining Roma in January, the 27-year-old has scored 11 goals in just 14 Serie A appearances.

As well as being capable of scoring goals, Malen is also able to play in more than one attacking position. In his career, the Dutchman has played up front and on both wings, so he is quite a versatile attacker.

Chelsea’s next manager, whoever that is, cannot be sure of Malen raising this team’s level, but he could be a good squad player to have.
