Chelsea hand Man United an ultimatum for Marcus Rashford after internal discussions

Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Marcus Rashford from rivals Manchester United this summer.

Rashford had a successful loan spell at Barcelona last season, but the Catalan club have decided not to exercise their option to buy. It has given Chelsea and other sides an opportunity to recruit the forward.

However, the Blues will make one thing clear if they do open talks with Rashford’s current employers.

Chelsea only willing to sign Marcus Rashford on loan

While Chelsea may be interested in Rashford, the club are not keen on doing a permanent deal.

Journalist Simon Phillips has claimed on Si Phillips Talks Chelsea that the Blues have discussed the possibility of signing the 28-year-old but will only take him off United’s hands if they are prepared to sanction another loan.

Barcelona’s buy option was only set at £26m, so Rashford is unlikely to cost a huge transfer fee.

However, the England international is on massive wages at Old Trafford, explaining Chelsea’s reluctance to sign him permanently.

Joe Cole recently urged Chelsea to sign Rashford, and it looks as though the retired attacker could get his wish if his former club can convince United to do a deal on their terms.

Marcus Rashford’s stats at Barcelona last season

Again, Rashford’s loan spell at Barcelona was successful. In La Liga, he scored eight goals and provided seven assists in 32 appearances, helping Hansi Flick’s side to win the title.

Across all competitions, Rashford scored 14 goals and set up another 11 in 49 outings.

All in all, it was a very productive campaign for the United academy product. Out wide, especially on the left, Chelsea have lacked that kind of productivity.

With that in mind, the Blues should make a move for Rashford in the transfer window. However, you suspect that United will want to offload him permanently, so you would not make Chelsea favourites for his signature unless their stance changes and they become open to buying the player.
