Chelsea have been keeping an eye on two of their former defenders, Marc Guehi and Fikayo Tomori.

That is according to a report Tuttomercatoweb.

The Italian outlet claims that Chelsea are just one Premier League club who have been following Marc Guehi and Fikayo Tomori in their search for defensive reinforcements.

The Blues sold Guehi to Crystal Palace and Tomori to AC Milan respectively back in 2021.

Since then, both defenders have gone on to become important players for their respective clubs.

Do Chelsea need Marc Guehi or Fikayo Tomori?

As of right now, as good as both players have become, not really. With Benoit Badiashile fit again, Mauricio Pochettino has four players he can use in central defence at this moment in time: the Frenchman, Thiago Silva, Axel Disasi and Levi Colwill.

Badiashile and Disasi could even be Chelsea’s future centre-back pairing, with the former recently speaking about how much he enjoys playing with the latter.

Would Guehi or Tomori be interested in returning to Stamford Bridge to fight for a place? It is highly unlikely. The whole reason they left west London in the first place was to become starters.

Ultimately, then, we would be a bit surprised to see either Guehi or Tomori in a Chelsea kit again.

Of course, Silva could leave Chelsea at the end of the season when his contract expires, which could open up a space in Pochettino’s squad. But again, Guehi or Tomori will still have to compete against the likes of Badiashile and Disasi for a spot in the team.

Are they going to want to do that after becoming regulars, especially Tomori, who is a starter at one of the biggest clubs in the world in Milan? Probably not. Still, if Chelsea are determined to sign a new centre-back next year, they may very well look at buying one of the England duo.
