Chelsea are desperately trying to strengthen their attack right now, but one winger will definitely not be joining them this summer.

After signing Liam Delap from Ipswich Town to bolster their options up front, Chelsea have now turned to the wide positions.

Chelsea are closing in on Jamie Gittens and are also thought to be weighing up a move for Alejandro Garnacho.

Talk about signing the likes of Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams and Real Madrid’s Rodrygo has died down, though.

Chelsea rule out move for Nico Williams

Williams and Rodrygo are high-profile names Chelsea fans would love to see at Stamford Bridge, but either arriving seems unlikely.

While Chelsea have looked at Williams, doing a deal is tricky, especially with Barcelona and Bayern Munich currently pushing for his signature.

According to talkSPORT, the Blues have actually now ruled themselves out of the race to sign Williams because of how expensive a transfer is expected to be.

The 22-year-old is obviously a terrific talent. In a recent interview with Marca, which has been shared by Sport, Spain manager Luis de la Fuente has described Williams as a “genius” and tipped him to make history in the future.

He has already started to leave behind a bit of a legacy despite being in the early stages of his career. Williams scored in the Euro 2024 final against England, helping Spain to win the European Championship trophy.

Chelsea could still sign two wingers this summer

Williams may be off the table, but Chelsea could still end up making significant improvements out wide.

Chelsea adding Gittens and Garnacho to their squad has not been ruled out, which makes sense. They have taken a real hit in the left-wing position following Jadon Sancho’s return to Manchester United and Mykhailo Mudryk’s suspension.

Williams is more proven at the really elite level, though, after his success at Euro 2024. He is the wide man a lot of Chelsea fans were extremely keen on.
