Chelsea have now released Baba Rahman from his contract at Stamford Bridge – and he has already found a new club.

That is according to Fabrizio Romano.

So, what are the details regarding Baba Rahman‘s exit from Chelsea? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the Ghana international spent the 2022/23 campaign on loan at Reading, where he made 18 appearances in the Championship as the Royals were relegated.

Now, despite the fact Baba had 12 months remaining on his £85,962-a-week contract at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea have terminated the defender’s deal early.

The 29-year-old has joined PAOK in Greece after Chelsea ensured he became a free agent ahead of schedule.

Baba has signed a two-year contract with the Greek giants.

Baba proved to be a disastrous signing by Chelsea

When you take the financial numbers into account, Baba turned out to be a truly woeful signing by the Blues.

The left-back cost Chelsea £14m when signing him from Augsburg back in August 2015, and he has been earning £85,962-a-week ever since.

Eight years and just 23 appearances for Chelsea later, Baba has now left Stamford Bridge, and many fans will be forgiven for not even knowing he was still on the books in west London.

That is not meant as a criticism of Baba whatsoever – Chelsea sent him out on loan seven times after signing him, which ultimately makes it very difficult for him to assert himself anywhere.

At the end of the day, it is merely a case of what could have been – Jose Mourinho even tipped the Ghanaian to become world class one day, admitting that Baba had potential to become one of the best around.

Nevertheless, it is good news for Chelsea to have Baba’s £85,962-a-week salary removed from the wage bill, as those funds could go towards a new signing’s personal terms this summer.
