Chelsea are now keeping an eye on developments at Tottenham after Spurs opened talks to sign David Raya from Brentford.

That is according to the Evening Standard.

So, what has been written about Chelsea and David Raya? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, it is said that Chelsea are monitoring the situation with Brentford’s No.1 after Tottenham made strong progress in negotiations over personal terms with the Spaniard.

The Evening Standard believe Spurs are expected to reach an agreement with Raya – who has been called “incredible” by Jürgen Klopp.

However, Brentford want £40m for the Spain international, a fee Tottenham are unwilling to spend on a player who only has 12 months remaining on his contract.

As a result, Chelsea are said to be keeping a close eye on the situation, in case the chance to hijack the deal arises.

Manchester United are also paying attention as Erik ten Hag aims to find a replacement for David de Gea.

Raya enjoyed a strong 2022/23 campaign, keeping 12 clean sheets in 38 Premier League appearances as Brentford finished ninth.

Raya situation worth keeping an eye on for Chelsea

In our view, Chelsea are certainly wise to keep track of the situation involving Raya.

The 27-year-old’s agent has already put pressure on Brentford to lower their £40m asking price, so there seems to be a strong desire from the glovesman to change clubs this summer.

Brentford have also already signed a replacement for Raya in Mark Flekken, so the Bees themselves have a need to cooperate fully in negotiations over the Spaniard.

Nevertheless, if Tottenham do end up offering Brentford an acceptable sum, Chelsea have alternatives.

A story from Tutto Mercato Web states that the Blues have bid for Inter Milan No.24 Andre Onana, and the Cameroon international is open to joining.

Be sure to keep an eye on Chelsea’s goalkeeping situation this summer, as Mauricio Pochettino is expected to find a new shot-stopper.
