The newest transfer speculation suggests that Chelsea have reignited their interest in signing a Champions League midfielder.
When you look at the Chelsea squad, the central midfield position is certainly an interesting one.
The Blues are fortunate to own the likes of Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia. Also, let’s not forget that Andrey Santos is developing into a huge talent out on loan with sister club Strasbourg this campaign. Chelsea have already decided they’ll bring Santos into their squad next season.
However, Blues manager Enzo Maresca has been relying too much on Fernandez and Caicedo because of Lavia’s frequent injury problems.

Chelsea make fresh approach for Champions League midfielder
According to Cadena SER, Chelsea reached out to Barcelona about signing their youngster Marc Casado in the 2024 summer transfer window.
The report now claims that the Blues have returned by making a fresh approach in recent weeks for the 21-year-old talent.
Apparently, Casado believes he can enjoy a long and successful future at the Camp Nou after coming through the Barcelona academy to their first team. The La Liga giants highly value the deep-lying midfielder because of his significant impact this season, too.
Also, the Spain international does have a release clause worth €100m (£83m) in his current contract with Barca, though.
Casado, who’s so impressive at the base of midfield for Barcelona, is enjoying a great campaign for Hansi Flick’s side, playing a key role in both La Liga and the Champions League. Incidentally, Barcelona manager Flick described Casado as “incredible” earlier in the season, via The Athletic.
| Competition | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| La Liga | 19 | 0 | 3 |
| Champions League | 8 | 0 | 2 |
| Supercopa | 2 | 0 | 1 |
| Copa del Rey | 1 | 0 | 0 |

Do Chelsea need another midfield signing?
For starters, we’d say the Blues must focus their transfer attention on the striker, goalkeeper and centre-back positions. Afterwards, we’d possibly think about another midfield recruit.
Chelsea did sign Mathis Amougou, 19, on deadline day of the January window. Maresca admits that Amougou is very much a Chelsea signing for the future, though.
In terms of Casado, he would be a superb addition at Stamford Bridge. He’s the perfect profile for Chelsea, someone who’s young and a midfield general in front of the defence.
However, there’s a strong argument to be made that they’ll have enough next season with Caicedo, Fernandez, Lavia and Santos vying for the midfield starting roles.
