Chelsea are expected to bring in some more experienced players this summer but that has not stopped the Blues from pursuing some young gems, and Leicester City’s Jeremy Monga was an option.

Behdad Eghbali has made it clear that BlueCo will learn from mistakes this summer. They’ve shown that they are ready to do that by handing Xabi Alonso the title ‘manager’, while older players are targeted.

Last summer, Chelsea spent the best part of £300m on new signings and the eldest by some distance was Joao Pedro at 23. Four were teenagers in Estevao, Kendry Paez, Mamadou Sarr and Jorrel Hato.

This summer, there will be older signings but BlueCo have not said they’ll stop their project of signing young players too. That has been proven by a last-ditch attempt to sign Leicester City’s Jeremy Monga.

Chelsea miss out on Jeremy Monga despite late attempt

Monga has caught the eye with Leicester City during the 2025-26 season. Despite the Foxes’ relegation to League One, Leicester still boast some excellent players and Monga was one of them, despite his age.

Just 16, he played 30 times for Leicester last season and that has alerted some of England’s biggest clubs. An England U19 international already, Chelsea have been keeping an eye on Monga since he was 15.

Now, a report from TeamTalk says Chelsea have made an attempt to sign Monga alongside Man United and Man City, but Arsenal have won the race. Monga has chosen to move to The Emirates Stadium.

The report states a compensation fee has been agreed between Arsenal and Leicester City, in the region of £10m and £15m. One of England’s most-exciting talents is set to join Mikel Arteta’s side this term.

Chelsea’s struggles in the transfer market come to light again

Chelsea have suffered once again in a transfer battle. The issue the Blues are facing an uphill task in that they are shopping in a market where they are trying to sign the best players, but face top competition.

But why would any player pick a side that have failed to qualify for any European competition over clubs like City, United and Arsenal, all of whom will be in next season’s edition of the elite tournament?

This is going to be a theme that runs deep into the transfer market. If Chelsea are to improve their side, they have to shop at the top end, but in doing so, they will have to fend off interest from the best teams.
