Chelsea’s focus on signing some of the best young players around the globe has reportedly led them to checking on a prospect at a rival Premier League club.
There has been a quite clear shift in the transfer strategy under the current Chelsea owners to invest in promising youngsters for the future. While the current Blues squad does look extremely light on experience, so many rising stars are on the books at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly thinks the squad needs more experience and a better balance between youth and know-how.
It’s already been confirmed that Kendry Paez and Estevao Willian, both aged 17, will officially become Chelsea players later in 2025. In fact, Paez is now training at Cobham as he makes an early start on adjusting to life in England.
Chelsea set sights on Leicester City’s Jeremy Monga
According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea are one of the top European sides currently keeping a close eye on Leicester City prospect Jeremy Monga.
Apparently, the Blues and Manchester City are watching the 15-year-old talent. Also, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain have already made enquiries about the Foxes attacker.
The report adds that Monga, who’s a winger by trade, is already training regularly with the first team of Premier League outfit Leicester.
Without a doubt, he fits the type of profile that Chelsea have gone after in the last two and a half years. It’s interesting to note that Monga has featured in a matchday squad as an unused substitute in Leicester’s FA Cup tie against Manchester United earlier in February, but he’s still waiting to make his first-team debut.
Back in August 2024, Monga scored and assisted as Leicester beat Chelsea in an Under-18s match. It highlights quite some rise that the English teenager is now regularly training with the seniors at the King Power Stadium.
Even though he’s only 15, Chelsea’s Calvin Diakite signed a deal with Adidas in December, which is very rare for defenders that age. The club’s supporters are becoming more and more used to hearing about the next big academy graduate under this ownership.
It’s great to see focus on the Chelsea academy and a willingness to scout the best young stars around, but it can’t be to the detriment of the first-team group.

It’s interesting that current Blues prospect Shumaira Mheuka, 17, features on the list above. It’ll be interesting to see if he gets any more opportunities under Enzo Maresca before the season finishes.
Mheuka was compared to Cole Palmer earlier in the season after a stunning individual goal for the Under-18s side, so could the young centre-forward provide an answer to the club’s current striker problem.
