Enzo Maresca has made it clear who is in his plans at Chelsea for the upcoming season, and who is free to leave the club before the transfer window closes.

As has frequently been the case on deadline day since Todd Boehly and co took over, a glut of Blues players are being linked with a move away from the club in the final hours.

Axel Disasi has Premier League interest, while Chelsea will still be hoping to find suitors for the likes of Ben Chilwell and Raheem Sterling, who have been part of the infamous ‘bomb squad’ during this transfer window.

There are a number of players who returned to pre-season at Chelsea while out of the plans as far as the first team goes, and one of those is David Datro Fofana.

Championship sides register interest in Chelsea’s David Datro Fofana on loan

Maresca has sanctioned the exit of Fofana this summer, with him not playing a game for the club since he took over as manager.

The striker has spent time on loan at Union Berlin, Burnley and Goztepe since making the move to Stamford Bridge, and it looks like any move today will be on a temporary basis too.

According to Pete O’Rourke, Championship sides Preston and Charlton are sniffing around a potential deal in the next few hours.

He said: “Preston and Charlton have made loan enquiries for Chelsea striker David Datro Fofana.”

Fofana’s unfortunate Chelsea career

There was a time where Fofana looked as if he was going to make a real impact in a Chelsea shirt, coming in during a mad winter transfer window where the likes of Enzo Fernandez, Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke joined the club.

When Graham Potter was in charge, the Ivorian even started a Premier League game for the Blues, however it has been more than two years since he made any form of appearance.

Finding a permanent suitor is proving to be a struggle, however there will be hope that an impressive loan in the Championship could see him become an attractive asset to another side next summer.
