Chelsea must get rid of players before signing £30m man Enzo Maresca wants

Enzo Maresca can be satisfied with the transfer business Chelsea have done since his arrival at the club.

While it is still early July, Chelsea have already signed Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Marc Guiu, Omari Kellyman and Tosin Adarabioyo.

Dewsbury-Hall and Adarabioyo already know the Premier League quite well, so they are two signings who could really help Enzo Maresca.

The Italian, though, looks keen to do more business.

Chelsea may have to sell before strengthening in one position, however.

Enzo Maresca wants Championship player

Chelsea could dip into the Championship to improve one area of their squad this summer.

According to journalist Alan Nixon, Maresca is interested in Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford.

However, Nixon has claimed on Patreon that Chelsea need to move on some of their current shot-stoppers before making a bid for Trafford.

The journalist has also stated that Burnley value the 21-year-old at £30m.

Djordje Petrovic and Robert Sanchez were the Blues’ main two goalkeeper options last season, while the club still have Kepa Arrizabalaga on their books.

What Chelsea need to do regardless of whether they sign James Trafford or not

At this point, it would be a bit of a surprise if Chelsea signed Trafford this summer.

Even if Maresca does want the Englishman, it has been claimed that he is looking forward to working with Sanchez.

If Maresca envisions Sanchez as Chelsea’s No.1 in the upcoming season, then there is no point in bringing in Trafford. Petrovic can easily cover for the Spaniard and compete with him. He did finish the last campaign as the first-choice goalkeeper after all.

Whatever happens, Chelsea need to move Kepa on.

He is on quite big wages for a player who was not even at the club last season, earning £150,000 a week, according to Spotrac. He is the first goalkeeper who should go if Chelsea are planning to ditch one of their current shot-stoppers. Whether Trafford comes in or not, Kepa should be sold this summer.
