Chelsea now a likely destination for 18-goal forward Pochettino once called a ‘genius’

Chelsea are now a likely destination for Neymar this summer as PSG attempt to sell the Brazilian superstar.

That is according to ESPN Deportes.

If Todd Boehly does manage to bring Neymar to Stamford Bridge, we believe Mauricio Pochettino would be very happy about it.

What’s the story?

Well, the Argentine previously heaped praise on Neymar, who has scored 18 goals this season, after working with the 31-year-old at PSG.

Pochettino is quoted by the Guardian as saying: “It’s so easy with Neymar because you don’t need to do too much. From day one, he’s been very open to work. He’s very humble, he listens and always accepts all the instructions in a very good way. Brazilian players have something special inside.

“They love to play football because it’s like a dance. They play like they are dancing. Ronaldinho was my teammate when I was a PSG player and now Neymar. They need to feel good, to feel happy to perform in the best way.”

When discussing the South American sensation and his hugely talented supporting cast in Paris, Pochettino described them as “geniuses” when speaking to BT Sport.

The 51-year-old said: “Our job is to try to put these type of talents, they are geniuses, to work like a team.”

Clearly, Pochettino is a huge fan of Neymar, so – on the basis of these comments – we doubt he would be against Boehly bringing him to Chelsea this summer.

Neymar could knock Mudryk’s confidence at Chelsea

In our view, Neymar’s arrival could have a negative impact on Mykhailo Mudryk, who has already endured a difficult start to life at Chelsea.

The Ukraine international – who Gary Neville ripped into live on commentary duty during the defeat to Manchester United – is yet to score for the Blues since his £88.5m move from Shakhtar Donetsk in January.

Now, if Pochettino brings a world class superstar to Chelsea in Neymar, who also operates on the left wing like Mudryk, it could knock the 22-year-old’s confidence even more, knowing that he has already been replaced in the starting XI.

Hopefully – if Neymar does arrive at Chelsea – he helps Mudryk find his feet, rather than hinder him.
