Chelsea are reportedly on the verge of agreeing yet another new signing during this extremely busy summer transfer window.
While new Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca is getting to know his players, it feels like the squad is growing larger and larger every week. The latest bit of business from the Blues was completed on Tuesday night when they announced the signing of 22-year-old goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal.
Speaking via Chelsea’s official website straight after his move, Jorgensen praised the quality of teammate Robert Sanchez. However, the duo will now battle it out for the starting position as the first-choice Blues keeper.
When you look around at the huge squad of players, there’s certainly a lot of competition for places at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea close to agreeing deal for Mike Penders
Journalist Sacha Tavolieri has claimed via X that Chelsea are close to agreeing a deal to sign Genk goalkeeper Mike Penders.
It is explained that the Blues have offered a package worth more than €20m (£17m) for the teenage shot-stopper. There’s a long-term contract on the table for him, too.
Apparently, parties are now trying to finalise a deal for the 19-year-old Belgian star, who would immediately return to Genk on loan for the 2024/25 season to continue his development.
This comes after journalist Fabrizio Romano reported via X earlier this week that Chelsea were lining up a move for 6ft 7in gloveman Penders. It certainly seems like this transfer saga is advancing quickly, which is no real surprise when you see how the Blues have conducted business in this window.
Chelsea are mad for goalkeepers
Chelsea already have so many goalkeepers on their books right now, but that’s not deterring them from going after Penders and making him a long-term investment.
There’s currently five keepers on the pre-season tour in the US. Jorgensen has joined up to work alongside fellow goalkeepers Robert Sanchez, Marcus Bettinelli, Lucas Bergstrom and Eddie Beach. Meanwhile, Djordje Petrovic, who finished last season as the club’s No 1, is currently missing from the tour with an injury.
It’s starting to look quite chaotic and a bit confusing for the Blues as they desperately try to find the answer in goal.
