Bayern Munich could ruin Chelsea’s transfer plans as they get ready to enter the race for one of the Blues’ targets.

Chelsea and Bayern Munich could actually do some business with each other this month.

For example, it has been claimed that Bayern have reached an agreement with Christopher Nkunku over a transfer. Meanwhile, Mathys Tel is being linked with a move to Chelsea.

In the summer, though, it looks like the two European giants could go head-to-head for one midfielder.

Bayern Munich interested in Manchester United star Kobbie Mainoo

Last week, it was reported that Chelsea could make a swoop for Kobbie Mainoo as early as this month.

United selling one of their key players to a rival during the January transfer window seems highly unlikely, but with his contract running down, a move in the summer could be possible.

If so, a transfer may still not be straightforward for Chelsea, as the Blues could face competition from Bayern.

According to The Sun, the Bundesliga outfit are set to join the race for the 19-year-old midfielder, which would complicate things for Chelsea.

Kobbie Mainoo compared to Clarence Seedorf

One person who will not want to see Mainoo depart United this month or in the summer is club legend Rio Ferdinand.

The former United captain is a big fan of Mainoo, comparing him to AC Milan icon Clarence Seedorf.

Speaking about the England international on TNT Sports last year, Ferdinand said: “I am not saying he is the same ability or that player yet, but there are signs, he gives me vibes of Clarence Seedorf the way he can manoeuvre in tight situations, and the way he manipulates the ball, uses his body at times and shifts it.”

One current United player, Casemiro, would also be sad to see Mainoo go. When he spoke to United’s official club magazine last March, he said: “I think we have a complete player in Kobbie — aggressive, looks after the ball, a player who wants the ball.”

While Chelsea fans would surely welcome a midfielder of Mainoo’s quality and potential to the club, United do not need to hit the panic button just yet.

Mainoo wants to stay at United, while there is still some time to run on his contract. All in all, it would be a bit of a surprise if Mainoo ended up joining Chelsea.
