The transfer speculation has kicked into overdrive in the last 24 hours regarding Chelsea and several bits of potential business.

The Blues are possible suitors for Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel. At the same time, Bayern have reached a verbal agreement with Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku as they try to bring the 27-year-old attacker to Munich.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed via X that Chelsea recently spoke to Bayern about signing Tel, who’s their talented 19-year-old forward.

Let’s see in the coming days if Tel and Nkunku end up moving in the opposite direction.

How much Chelsea target Mathys Tel will cost

According to The Daily Mail, Chelsea have made an enquiry about signing Bayern Munich striker Tel.

It is explained that the teenage Frenchman, who can also play as a left-winger, is a long-term target for the Blues.

The report states that Tel would cost in excess of £40m to sign from the German Bundesliga giants. Apparently, Chelsea would likely submit an opening offer if they receive encouragement.

The Mail’s report adds further fuel to the Nkunku fire by claiming that he’s open to joining Bayern amid interest from them.

Chelsea were scouting Bayern’s Tel at the start of 2024, so will we now see them ramp up their interest with a move in this mid-season window?

In 81 Bayern first-team appearances, Tel has scored 16 goals. The youngster’s biggest challenge so far at the Allianz Arena has been breaking into the starting XI.

What Thomas Tuchel previously said about Mathys Tel

England manager and former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel previously coached Tel when he was in charge of Bayern. In fact, the youngster scored 11 goals in 48 matches under him.

Blues supporters may be interested to hear that their old manager was a massive fan of the teenage frontman.

Speaking back in September 2023, Tuchel said via Bavarian Football Works: “Mathys has a high impact off the bench. He is a weapon for us at the moment, we know what he can give us. He will also start games this season. He is currently showing that he can assist and score goals. We’re taking it step by step with him. He’s on the right track.”

On paper, Tel may be a better fit to provide competition and cover at Chelsea for Nicolas Jackson in the No.9 position. Will the Blues be willing to get close to his £40m asking price, though?
