Chelsea now have a golden chance to sign Rayan Cherki this summer as Lyon attempt to buy Christian Pulisic.

According to The Athletic, Lyon have made a £21.5m bid for the United States international.

So, where does Rayan Cherki come into this for Chelsea? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, an update from Simon Phillips on Substack claimed that Chelsea are exploring a deal to sign the French wonderkid from Lyon – who has been described as a “spectacular” player by L’Equipe.

Lyon, according to But Football Club, want €50m (£43m) for Cherki, which is a lot for Chelsea to spend on a 19-year-old talent.

Therefore, the Blues should look to use Lyon’s interest in Pulisic to help them secure the France Under-21 international’s signature.

Todd Boehly and his recruitment team at Stamford Bridge should now consider putting a £20m bid on the table for the teenager with Pulisic included in the deal, which would take the total sum close to the £43m asking price.

The aforementioned story from The Athletic adds that Chelsea boast a strong working relationship with Lyon following a January agreement which saw Malo Gusto move to Stamford Bridge.

As a result, a deal for Cherki really could be on.

One issue for Chelsea in potential Pulisic and Cherki deal

While the above all sounds like a feasible plan, there is one problem.

The Daily Mail believe Pulisic has his heart set on a move to AC Milan this summer, with the Italian giants also in the running to secure his signature.

However, those at the San Siro have only put a £12m bid on the table so far – according to The Athletic – so they are nowhere near Lyon’s offer.

Nevertheless, if Lyon can convince Pulisic to join them, a deal for Cherki could materialise as a result of Chelsea’s excellent relationship with the French giants.
