Chelsea are now in talks to sign Romeo Lavia from Southampton – despite claims that some staff members aren’t too convinced.

That is according to Football London.

So, what are the details involving Chelsea and Romeo Lavia? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well – according to the Daily Mail – some staff members at Stamford Bridge are having doubts about signing the Belgium international.

Nevertheless, Joe Shields – Director of Talent and Recruitment at Chelsea – has pushed on with the pursuit having been the man to sign Lavia for Southampton in a £10m deal from Manchester City last year.

Football London believe Chelsea have decided to push for a number of new midfielders with N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek on their way out, while Denis Zakaria has already returned to Juventus.

It comes after 90min claimed that a double deal for Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo is also being considered to make up the depth in midfield.

Football London add that Lavia is expected to cost £50m – the Blues are said to have scouted the Southampton No.45 extensively throughout the 2022/23 campaign.

Hazard may have helped Lavia begin talks with Chelsea

By the sounds of it, Eden Hazard had some impact in this transfer saga.

The Express believe Lavia spoke to the Chelsea legend about a move to Stamford Bridge before meeting up with him at the Belgium camp for the 2022 World Cup in December.

Hazard is said to have encouraged the 19-year-old to join Chelsea if the opportunity presents itself.

Now, that opportunity does look to be within reach for Lavia, and could soon become reality as negotiations begin.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Chelsea seem determined to sign Lavia – the Blues even bid £50m for the teenager back in September, just weeks after he joined Southampton.
