Chelsea are currently interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti.

That is according to a report from Foot Mercato.

They claim that French league champions PSG want to sell Marco Verratti in this summer transfer window and have asked him to leave.

It is explained that the 30-year-old midfielder would prefer to stay in Europe rather than move to Saudi Arabia, which has become a very popular destination for high-profile stars.

The report says that Chelsea are keen on bringing the Italy international to Stamford Bridge.

The crazy developments in the past 24 hours regarding Chelsea’s pursuit of Brighton’s Moises Caicedo suggests the club may still need to sign another midfielder.

According to The Athletic, Liverpool have reached a £110million agreement to sign Caicedo despite Chelsea tabling a £100million bid.

It sounds like the Blues have missed out on the 21-year-old Brighton star.

Interestingly, Chelsea were linked with Verratti earlier in this summer window. Will we see the transfer links reignite after missing out on Caicedo?

Journalist Kaveh Solhekol claimed on Sky Sports last month that Chelsea and Liverpool are both interested in £70million-rated Verratti.

Described as a “genius” by Neymar last year, Verratti is a technically deep-lying playmaker who’s run things in PSG’s midfield for so many years.

The defensive midfielder is press-resistant and a wonderful passer, but we wonder if this could be just a couple of years too late for him to move to the Premier League. The same doubts did surround Thiago Silva before he joined from PSG, though.
