Chelsea are looking at Sporting Lisbon’s Marcus Edwards as a potential target late in this summer transfer window.

That is according to well-respected journalist Simon Phillips.

Phillips reported via his Substack on Monday that Marcus Edwards could be “one to watch” when it comes to Chelsea.

He’s heard from sources that the 24-year-old winger has been mentioned as somebody the Blues are looking at right now.

It’ll be interesting to see if there’s any more developments regarding the English attacker’s future during the final few days of the transfer window. Incidentally, the window closes this Friday night at 11pm.

Football.London claimed today Chelsea expect to make one last signing in the final week of the summer window. That is expected to be a forward player capable of playing as a right-winger or No 10.

In fairness, Edwards definitely fits the criteria above.

The London-born playmaker has been excellent since his move over to Portugal. In particular, he scored 12 goals and made 14 assists in 51 games across all competitions last season for Sporting.

Described as “very talented” by Tottenham’s Eric Dier (Fooball.London), Edwards could be a superb addition if he returns to England.

He’s got fantastic technique and a wand of a left foot, which he’s improved with regular first-team football out in Portugal.

The wide dazzle definitely fits the criteria for the kind of player signed by Chelsea under this ownership, with a similar profile to someone like Blues talent Noni Madueke.
