Chelsea have now been offered the chance to sign Sergej Milinkovic-Savic from Lazio this summer.

That is according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

So, what are the details involving Chelsea and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the Italian news outlet believe Mauricio Pochettino has been offered the chance to sign the Serbia international.

Interestingly, it is said that Mateja Kezman – who played for Chelsea in the 2004/05 campaign and represents the Lazio No.21 as his agent – is the one who offered him to the Blues.

Gazzetta dello Sport believe Chelsea are interested in the proposal involving Milinkovic-Savic, so a deal could be on.

This update comes after Sky Italia revealed back in May that Lazio are resigned to losing the 28-year-old this summer, as he only has 12 months remaining on his contract and has no intention of signing a new deal.

Surprisingly, the Serie A side would be happy to accept a sum in the region of €30m – €35m (£26m – £30m) for Milinkovic-Savic, which seems very reasonable for a player described as “the best midfielder in the world” by Lazio President Claudio Lotito.

The 66-year-old told Il Messaggero: “He scored a goal at the World Cup with his ankle injured and he’s the best midfielder in the world.”

Chelsea could land bargain of the summer in Milinkovic-Savic

In our view, if Chelsea manage to sign the Serbian for a fee in the region of £30m, it could prove to be the best deal of the entire summer transfer window.

Milinkovic-Savic, who was described as being “on the same level as Kevin De Bruyne” by Lazio teammate Ciro Immobile, combines goalscoring with creativity in the centre of midfield, while his towering 6ft 4in frame should help him adapt to life in the Premier League.

As quoted by Fabrizio Romano, Immobile said: “Trust me, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is magic. He’s on the same level of Kevin de Bruyne.”

In the 2022/23 campaign, Lazio’s midfield maestro scored 11 goals and provided eight assists in 47 appearances, which was more than any other Chelsea player managed to register in both aspects.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as a golden opportunity appears to be staring Chelsea right in the face.
