Chelsea are now reportedly considering Barcelona forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as a transfer target.

According to well-respected journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, the Blues have now set their sights on the 33-year-old superstar as a potential candidate to lead the line at Stamford Bridge next season.

It is understood there’s already discussions on Aubameyang’s side, but Chelsea are yet to actually submit a bid.

Aubameyang, who’s very familiar to English audiences from his time at Arsenal, is the latest attacker to be linked with Chelsea during a manic window.

‘Auba’ scored 92 goals in only 163 Arsenal appearances, so he’s a striker that knows where the back of the net is.

He’s netted 13 goals in 23 Barcelona games so far, but could a swift return to England now be on the cards?

It’s obvious that the Chelsea fanbase are desperate for the club to sign a new No.9 in this window because a huge void has emerged since taking the decision to loan out Romelu Lukaku. Not many will have seen Aubameyang as a possible option, though.

It’s unclear at this stage on how likely this deal actually is to happening, but it’s interesting to note Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel previously coached Aubameyang when the pair were at Borussia Dortmund.

Tuchel even explained last year that he remains “very close” with the £250,000-a-week Barcelona star.

“He( Aubameyang) was a very important player for me and I still have a very close relationship with him.” Tuchel said in December, 2021.

Some Arsenal fans rallied together last year to suggest Chelsea should buy Aubameyang, but it would be interesting to hear how they would react to last night’s breaking news.
